Music

The Music Department is an extremely happy, vibrant and busy place, with both full and part time members of staff and peripatetic teachers who ensure that music remains an important and ever-present part of life.

Music is taught throughout the school, becoming an optional choice at GCSE and A level alongside the other creative arts. Beyond the classroom all pupils have the opportunity to join instrumental ensembles and choirs.

Drama

Drama is taught throughout the school and is for all, regardless of ability or experience. If pupils want to be involved in the school productions then they can audition for the most suitable role or take a part in the production and stage management behind the scenes.

We have our own purpose built, fully equipped theatre, the Kirkpatrick theatre, where we perform junior and whole school concerts and productions. Recent productions include ‘Annie’, ‘Matilda’ and ‘Daisy Pulls It Off’. The students are involved in every aspect of production – performance, lighting, sound, costume and make-up, stage management and front of house.

For those who wish to study drama, we offer it as a GCSE or at A level where students study different styles of theatre and playwrights through coursework.

There are also regular theatre trips, visiting theatre companies and workshops.

Art

Art is taught throughout the school and aims at developing and inspiring skills to express what the students see and understand of the world around them. The walls around the school are decorated with artwork from both past and present pupils. Art is an optional popular choice at both GCSE and A level.
