The Hollies

Welcome To The Hollies

Twycross House Pre-Preparatory School was founded in 1982 and is a selective co-educational day school for pupils aged 4-8 years. It is affectionately known as The Hollies. Children are selected with a view to their progressing to Twycross House School which is a co-educational school for pupils aged 8-18 years.

The Hollies is located off the village green in Twycross and is set in four acres, including a walled garden and playing fields. The house and buildings are mainly Georgian with some Victorian additions. Other buildings include a hall, specialist art and music rooms, library, sports hall, indoor swimming pool, outdoor tennis courts and The Old Sweet Shop where the children dine and have their art lessons.

The Hollies caters for bright children and each class has an age range of no more than 6 months. From four years old, children are taught by specialist teachers in French, games, swimming and music as well as by a full-time class teacher and class assistant.

We encourage children, within a calm and purposeful environment, to develop socially and gain in confidence both individually and collectively. The need to think of others is emphasised. We feel that it is very important that a child acquires confidence in the knowledge of what is right and wrong. The ethos of the school is that children should have the opportunity to develop at the appropriate pace with due regard to their abilities.

All children are tested before places are offered for admission to The Hollies. The majority progress to Twycross House School which is by examination at the age of eight and our own knowledge of the children. The children’s academic performance is monitored on a regular basis and there are parent/teacher consultations in October and June each year.
