“Are they school ready?”
It’s a question we hear all the time — and often misunderstand.

School readiness isn’t about sitting still, perfect pencil grip, or ticking academic boxes. It’s about developing emotional regulation, communication skills, curiosity, resilience, and the ability to build relationships.

These qualities don’t grow from pressure. They develop through secure, responsive, and developmentally appropriate experiences.

Today’s children are growing up in a fast-paced, technology-driven world. While there are more educational opportunities than ever, there is also more pressure — and less time for unhurried play. Constant busyness and screen-based entertainment can unintentionally overwhelm young minds that thrive on simplicity.

Children need time: time to explore, to imagine, to discover, and to simply be young. Instead of rushing from one activity to the next or relying on screens, they benefit most from outdoor exploration, real-world experiences, and meaningful play.

That’s why we are embracing the ‘Curiosity Approach’ — a modern, child-led philosophy rooted in awe, wonder, and hands-on exploration, with a zero screen-time policy. It aligns with our ethos by encouraging deep engagement in play without digital distractions.

Rather than directing children, this approach empowers them to lead their own learning. By making choices, experimenting, and solving problems independently, children build confidence, critical thinking skills, and resilience.

Inspired by Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Pikler, and Steiner, the Curiosity Approach replaces plastic toys with natural, recycled, and open-ended “loose parts” materials. Classrooms become calm, home-like environments that nurture creativity and independence.

Key principles include:

  • Environment as the Third Teacher: Calm, neutral spaces designed to avoid overstimulation.
  • Authentic, Open-Ended Materials: Real-world objects that spark imagination and sensory exploration.
  • Child- Led Learning: Children choose their activities, fostering independence and confidence.
  • Wellbeing & “Hygge”: Cosy, meaningful environments that support emotional security.
  • Holistic Development: Focusing on the whole child – socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively.

Because true school readiness isn’t about rushing childhood — it’s about nurturing capable, curious, and confident learners.
