ISA Badminton

ISA BadmintonThe inaugural ISA National Badminton Tournament at Nottingham University was well supported by teams from all over the UK and featured players ranging in ages from eleven to eighteen and in standards from recreational to national.

Twycross House took a team of four boys, Curtis and Warren Smith, James Andrews and Lawrence Cockrell, and were delighted to return with two medals from the three age groups they competed in.

Curtis and James faced the toughest opposition in the Year 11-13 (U18) category and were the least well prepared having not played competitively for a while. Out of a field of thirteen including England players, Curtis finished fifth and James a creditable seventh although both boys felt that they had underperformed on the day.

In the Year 10 (U15) age group which lacked the quality of the senior group Warren barely broke sweat to reach the final and then swept away his opponent in the final with some well placed shots and deft touched to become National Champion. Lawrence, who lacked the tournament experience of the older three players, also came away with a medal as he improved in every match to win the Year 8/9 (U14) Plate Final in a hard fought match. For him this tournament was good preparation for the District League matches which begin in earnest after Christmas

Overall this was a very good effort from the boys and  they were a credit to the school throughout the day both on and off the court.
