German Exchange

At the beginning of November, eighteen nervous Twycross students from Senior 4 and 5 greeted their unknown German guests for a week’s hospitality in the midst of their families.  Within the week, the nerves had been replaced by butterflies at the exciting prospect of their return visit to Schweich, at the end of this term.

The week’s visitation flew by, with all students from both sides of the Channel claiming to be happy and enjoying the experience.  By the end of the week, even some of our host parents were tearful to see their German ‘son’ or ‘daughter’ leave and vowed to aspire to maintain contact for the foreseeable future.

During their visit, the German students joined in with lessons at school, tried their hand at fencing and rugby, took tours of Cadbury World, the National Space Centre and Leicester City football stadium.  Several were lucky enough to be taken to London for a day or two, to see the capital’s sights, whilst others were invited to parties and family celebrations, bowling, tennis tournaments and football matches.  The German staff were amazed and delighted by the generosity, support and friendliness of all of our families and students, teachers and of course the Assinders.  They claim it was the best ever Twycross House – Dietrich-Bonhoeffer Exchange to date!

When we return from our visit on December 21st, laden with goodies from the German Christmas markets and tales to tell for the rest of our lives, we will know for sure if it was!

Frohe Weihnachten!
