The Daily Mile

The children at The Hollies have been very excited at the introduction of The Daily Mile. This fitness initiative was firstly introduced in Scotland by headmistress Elaine Wyllie in 2012 since then over 3000 schools have partaken in the daily activity to help increase children’s fitness. At The Hollies we started our daily run lightly… Continue reading The Daily Mile.

Easter Egg Hunt

There was great excitement in the First Year with the arrival of the Easter Bunny. He had sneaked into the classroom during break time and had left a trail of clues leading to the eggs he had hidden around the garden. Thank you Easter Bunny

Easter Bonnet Parade

After a long, cold winter, The Hollies was treated to a taste of spring with its amazing annual Easter bonnet parade! The children looked wonderful in their bonnets and were very proud of their creations. Thank you to all the parents for your support. Speaking & Listening – Owl Poem

Everyone in class 2o managed to learn and recite a poem to the whole school in Assembly. Each child spoke loudly and clearly. Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky and Beethoven’s 5th symphony proved to be very popular. The children made some fabulous instruments including pan pipes… Continue reading Sound and Hearing.

Our Favourite Book

Lots of lovely books were shared on World Book Day. We enjoyed reading them in class and looking at the illustrations. Book reviews were completed and discussed. It is always a treat to discover new books and authors and, of course, to spread the joy of reading aloud.

Robot Recycle

Class 2y have been learning about materials.  We brought recycled material from home and constructed ‘Robert the Robot’.  “He looks very friendly” Eliza thought.

Having fun in Music

The First Year children worked in groups using percussion instruments. They were eager to perform to Mrs Dally and the rest of the class to show all that they had learned in Music.

Chinese New Year

We celebrated the Chinese New Year by dressing in traditional Chinese costumes and by making lanterns and scary dragons. We had some fun in drama re-enacting the Great Animal Race, which is the story of how each New Year in the Chinese calendar is named after a different animal. This year is the Year of… Continue reading Chinese New Year.

Budding Scientists

The First Year children had great fun investigating forces. We tried different ways to make a marble move including: blowing, pushing, pulling and rolling it down a cardboard slope. We discovered that the greater the push, the further and faster the marble went. Some of us then chose to make some amazing marble runs using… Continue reading Budding Scientists.
