May Concert

Our May concert once again drew attention to the wealth of musical talent in the school in all age groups.  The public examinations had claimed the time of our older musicians, but several members of S4 took the stage.  The extraordinarily accomplished Fran Gordon played ‘Hunter’s Moon’ on the French horn; Joe Dugas looked suitably cool playing ‘Take Five’ on his new tenor saxophone; Simon Wright sang sensitively to his own guitar accompaniment; and Ellie Craig finally succumbed to persuasion and played her flute for us with a wonderful purity of sound. Oliver West from S2 performed an Einaudi piano piece with the serenity and technical skill for which he is well known.

The juniors found themselves unfazed in such company.  Grace Hull and Keeva Morrell showed they had voices as big as their personalities; Thomas Cross had our toes tapping as he played ‘Singing in the Rain’ on his cornet; and it was particularly brave of Elias Nistelberger of Form 4 to step up on to the big stage for the first time to play his Grade One violin piece ‘Daisy Bell’.

The programme featured some ensemble performances as well, led off by the ukuleles of T.U.G.B.O.A.T. with a medley of songs in their usual energetic style.  The junior choir was also on great form with a selection of numbers from the musicals and the evening was rounded off by the cast of ‘High School Musical’, who sang their favourite songs from the show.

It was a delightful evening and our thanks go to all the performers and the teachers who rehearsed them.
